Eligibility

The Certificate in Education would be designed to serve students in their upper years of undergraduate study as well as those in their graduate studies in related fields.

Requirements

Students must complete courses in four subjects for a total of 12 US / 24 ECTS credits:

  • Lesson Design, Planning & Assessment (3 US / 6 ECTS credits)
  • Theory and Practice of Teaching, taken in two short courses (1.5 US / 3 ECTS credits each):
    • Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century
    • School Experience
  • Developing a Learning Environment taken as a single course (3 US / 6 ECTS credits) or two short courses (1.5 US / 3 ECTS credits each):
    • Developing a Learning Environment
    • Creating a Classroom Culture
  • Content-area elective (a course corresponding to the field in which the student wishes to teach; e.g. math, science, literature, etc.) (3 US / 6 ECTS credits)

The first three required courses – "Lesson Design, Planning, and Assessment," "Theory and Practice of Teaching," and "Developing a Learning Environment" – will be offered through the GHEA21 network. The content-area elective may be taken either through GHEA21 or at the student's home institution.
